This is Oakland // Picnic on the Bay

Apr 20, 2013

Last weekend my very best friend in the whole wide world, Lynsey, celebrated her birthday with a bike ride to Middle Harbor Shoreline Park to have a picnic on the Bay.  We started at her house in near Temescal with morning mimosas on the porch with the puppies of the house, Adeline July and Banger.  Then a gang of us grabbed our bikes and rode across town to the park.

No one but the birthday girl had ever been to this amazing spot-- you have to drive (or ride your bike, as we did) down 7th st all the way through the ports.  We were all so amazed by the wide open views of the Bay Bridge and San Francisco skyline, the beautiful and green lawns, and perfectly clean amenities.  One of the many things I love about living in Oakland is all the new things that reveal themselves to me over time, it seems like there is always something new and wonderful to discover.

We ate grilled steak, pasta salad, lots of cheese and bread, and sipped on a little bubbly all afternoon.  Kate and Matt brought their own hand-made corn toss game (Matt sewed all the corn bags himself), and soaked up the sun on the lawn, and told all sorts of gross stories to one another.  Eva and Jeremy brought little baby Parker, who was passed to each of the grown ups, eager play with her precious little cheeks.

It was a perfect day.  Next time you're looking for a great place to lounge on a sunny day, make your way over to this hidden gem.
