Rarity // Behind The Scenes with Voce Keen + Eva Kolenko

Aug 1, 2013

I first met Amanda a few years ago at a trunk show she was doing at Hangr 16 boutique, formally located on 16th st.  I remember seeing her and thinking she was some sort of rock goddess.  I loved her jewelry, much of it sand-casted by hand, and her incredible personal style {her interview totally nails her influences to a T}.  When I opened Crown Nine, Amanda was one of the first designers I wanted on board, I felt like Oakland women would really vibe what she is doing.  She has a loyal following here, including probably one of her number one fans Erin D {who has become one of my favorite people!}.

I figured that EVA KOLENKO would really dig Amanda and her line VOCE KEEN.  Eva's jewelry taste is definitely on the rock/ gritty/ pretty-masculine side {a girl after my own heart!}.  Eva and I met up, drove out to San Francisco's Mission neighborhood to see Amanda's studio and talk shop.  See Eva's photo tour {here} and shop Voce Keen stunning silver pyramid necklace {here}.  Enjoy!

New Arrivals for Your Weekend

Jul 26, 2013

So many lovely new things to play with!

Welcome San Francisco jewelry designer Kirsten Muenster with her bad-in-a-good-way chain-maille inspired heavy metal works of art.  Each is so meticulously made, with incredible patinas that develop on the body with wear, making each piece personal and unique.

Corey Egan dropped off some new works, including these stunners: a solid silver spine hoop that gets the shivers going up the back for-sure.  Plus some dainty Aspen 14k studs, and her silver and diamond Aspen ring among other delights.

To pair your ring-bling with equally cool nails, we started carrying Best of the East Bay nail enamel, Floss Gloss.   My favorite include Pony, Bikini Coral, and Neo Nacho.  All pro-grade without any of the nasty chemicals, designed in San Francisco and made in right here in the Bay.  Stay tuned for a super DL event we're hosting for our loyal clients and Instagram followers...

THE TRAIL // Pirates Cove

Jun 20, 2013

Sundays have become my day to go out and hit the trail.  I love waking up early, driving in the empty streets and arriving to a trail head for a run.  I typically go solo and use it as a time to reflect, rejuvenate, problem solve, and get connected.  Plunk me down in the outdoors and I'm a happy girl.

This past Sunday I ran one of my all time favorite trails, Pirate's Cove at Tennessee Valley.  To access this trail, you have to get off 101 at Mill Valley/Highway 1 exit and take Tennessee Valley Road to the main parking lot.  The main trail is paved part of the way, but then you lift up into the hills and the trail runs parallel to the ocean until you have an incredible view of Muir Beach.  You also get panoramic views of San Francisco and Marin.

Here was my Route, a 6.84 mile loop with a 1624ft climb [map]

Start Tennessee Valley Trail Parking Lot
Take Tennessee Valley Trail to Coastal Trail
Continue on Coastal Trail/ Pirate's Cove
Enjoy the view or walk down to Muir Beach
Return on Coastal Fire Road to Coyote Ridge Trail
Take Miwok Trail down back to parking lot

Dogs are not allowed on the main Tennessee Valley Trail, so if you want to bring your pup I would do this trail backwards, start by going up Miwok trail and after looping back on Pirate's Cove, take Coastal Fire Road trail to Coyote Ridge back again.

Start here (unless you have your mutt with you)

See that trail going up the hill?  That's where you're heading

View of Muir Beach

When you get to the Coastal Trail/ Coastal Fire Road junction above Muir Beach, you can take a sidestep to this little outlook spot.  Not for the faint of heart, it feels nimble and steep.
